Formed in 1992, Middlesex-based market leader Matta Products (UK) manufactures, supplies and installs safety mat systems for children's sports and play areas.

Traditionally, the match day experience for a football supporter with a disability ranged from difficult to downright unpleasant. Seating areas that offered poor views and exposure to the elements were common, while gaining access to grounds and their facilities could prove quite an ordeal.

Some 32,000 organizations have achieved the Investors in People (IiP) standard, which was launched in 1990. These employ more than 27 per cent of the UK workforce. Recent research carried out on 2,000 IiP-accredited organizations found that 80 per cent had increased their customer satisfaction levels as a result, while 70 per cent had improved their competitive edge and productivity. But aside from the business benefits, employees also gain.

To protect the public from unsafe gas installations, the Confederation for the Registration of Gas Installers (CORGI) was formed in 1970. Affiliation to the scheme was voluntary until 1991, when CORGI became the Council for Registered Gas Installers and registration for gas fitters became compulsory. CORGI now accredits more than 50,000 businesses and 100,000 individual gas appliance fitters.
