Standards and education

Standards make our lives easier, safer and healthier. If students become familiar with the idea of standards, they will understand that standards need to be met to keep us safe and sound.

Integrating the principles of standardization into educational curricula allows students to carry them forward into the workplace: an investment in the future.

BSI Education - lighting up the curriculum

BSI Education is a one-stop information and teaching portal for standards. Launched by the BSI and supported by the NSSF, the site enables students aged 7-19 and their teachers to learn more about standardization.

Higher education - now and for the future

In addition, further and higher education students are given guidance on researching standards and the importance of British Standards to business. Embedding standards at the heart of education, from primary school to graduation, delivers real benefits. Food, construction and environmental standards, for example, all require expert skills and participation to be effective.

Harnessing research and innovation

Educational communities have an important role in ensuring that standardization is effective and practical. Their specialized knowledge can form a vital contribution to standards development. Standards help the diffusion of research findings into the economy, while access to business resources directly benefits participating tertiary education institutions.
