Business benefits of accreditation recognised by UKAS appointment to the Better Regulation Commission
The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is delighted to announce that its Chairman, Lord Lindsay, has been appointed to sit on the Better Regulation Commission. The Commission provides independent advice and challenge to Government, about new regulatory proposals and the Government?s overall regulatory performance.
The Commission will continue the work carried out by the Better Regulation Task Force, as well as take on new responsibilities following the announcements in Budget 2005, including vetting departmental plans for simplification and administrative burden reduction.
Lord Lindsay?s appointment will enhance the Commission?s expertise on regulation affecting business, the voluntary sector and on European matters. The Commission will continue to work towards reducing unecessary regulatory and administrative burdens, whilst ensuring that regulation and its enforcement are proportionate, accountable, consistent, tranparent and targeted.
As Chairman of UKAS, Lord Lindsay has been a consistent contributor to the Better Regulation agenda, demonstrating that accreditation and conformity assessment are viable tools to stimulate growth and promote innovation, whilst avoiding regulatory creep. This new role will complement Lord Lindsay?s role within UKAS, as both organisations share a similar objective in developing a smarter approach to compliance that meets the needs of businesses and society in the 21st Century.
On his appointment, Lord Lindsay says: ?I am excited to have the opportunity to be able to contribute to the delivery of better regulation that will make a real difference to UK businesses and consumers. My knowledge of self-regulating principles such as the model of accreditation and certification will enable me to contribute to improving regulation, building on successful initiatives already in place?.
